Galaxy Events (formerly SPS) is the events division of Galaxy Communications. Begun in 2002 as a branding and sampling company for outside clients, it re-launched in 2006 as a major events company with the purchase of Taste of Syracuse.
In the years since, Galaxy Events has purchased or created numerous other events such as Wine and Chocolate Festivals in Syracuse and Utica, Fireworks Over Central New York, and others. Many of these events bring national talent to the community, such as Marshall Tucker Band, “American Idol’s” Bo Bice, Hollywood superstar Kevin Costner and Charlie Daniels Band. Galaxy Events is also instrumental in assisting Galaxy Communications with events associated with their status as the flagship of Syracuse University Athletics, such as the annual Midnight Madness event.
In 2012, Taste of Syracuse attracted over 175,000 visitors, making it the largest free festival in the county.
Galaxy Events recently came into a partnership with Onondaga County Parks in regards to Lights on the Lake. This new public-private partnership will allow for the continuation and growth of an already successful program. As part of this partnership, Onondaga County and Galaxy Events created a First Night Celebration. This is a family friendly New Years Eve event right at Lights on the Lake.
